Myself!

Remind is a reminder based app for planning that is designed for users that prefer reminder based task lists rather than notes based task planning apps.

Problem statement

How might we streamline the planning process for users that primarily use reminders for planning?

Our Solution

Based on user interviews and market research, I created a simple reminder based planning application to allow for scheduled reminder in a relaxed and organized format.

Understanding the User

“...if we [...] could organize our reminders based on types of categories [...] based on maybe something for the home, something for, like, appointments, something for school [...] maybe that could keep a little bit more organized.”

~ Participant 3

“I would use it [a planning app] just so it reminds me like hey, these are your long term goals, but for short term goals like you know like very minimal, very easy to achieve goals, I don't need to record it.”

~ Participant 1

User Interviews

In this project I wanted to create a product based on user interviews so I created some questions and interviewed 3 participants. I collected and summarised my notes and created a miro board to capture what I got from my participants. In general I found that simplicity and convenience was a major aspect and determining factor for motivation and control over one’s own planning. As a  reminder based app is unique to the planning app scene, I decided to centre my app around reminder planning with customizable notifications.

User Flows

After reviewing my interview results, I created some charts to map out task flows and requirements for the application, taking  into account my 6 key takeaways. Doing research in the beginning of the process allowed for me to come in with validated priorities and I kept these in mind as I created my task flows.

Takeaways

Simple is best: listen to your users!

As this is one self directed project, as well as a project involving taking interviews and taking the results
into consideration for an app, I learned a lot about incorporating research into design and executing it effectively by listening to user feedback and work for functionality within simplicity.
